1) What made you choose Kingston Barnes as an employer?
I was fortunate enough to meet James and Kate last April a few days after returning from Australia where I had been for the winter. For the last few years I have made my way as a professional cricketer so I had absolutely no idea what to expect and it was certainly a different environment as opposed to being in the sports arena. However, James and Kate sold me the opportunity of a life time and I am so grateful that I turned up on Kingston Barnes’ door.
2) Why did you choose a career in recruitment? Where does your passion/drive come from?
Recruitment is a very self-driven industry. Of course you can help and be helped but ultimately it comes down to what you put in. Like all format of sales you have to be exceptionally motivated to succeed and win and if you don’t have that passion and drive you won’t be successful. My drive to win comes from my sporting background and although office life is not quite as intense as being on a sports field a lot of those qualities can be transferred.
3) What interests you about construction?
Construction is in my blood! My Mum and Dad are both Chartered Quantity Surveyor’s and have created a company together ‘Walker Consultants’. Dad specialises in Adjudication and Arbitration and Mum is a Consultancy Project Manager. I have always had a passion for construction and it is only really now I am starting to understand exactly what takes place on site.
4) What is your favourite construction project?
The Royal London Hospital Refurbishment in 2012 by Skanska. The project was £1 billion redevelopment and the hospital now boasts over 1,300 beds and 222 operating theatres.
5) When you are not recruiting what do you do?
When I am not recruiting I will be out and about having drinks and dinners with my close friends. I take part in a variety of sports including golf, tennis and squash and still play cricket to a semi-professional level. ‘Work hard, play hard’ is certainly a quote that I try to abide by!
